How are you planning on using technology in the classroom? What would you like your classroom to look like? How would it function? How is this different or similar to what you would commonly find?
Ideally, my elementary school classroom would have a wide variety of technology available for use. I would share computer times with another class, and would have a class set of IPad’s. IPad’s offer many great benefits for the students, and are very user-friendly for the late primary and junior grades. I do not feel as though a class-set of computers would be valuable for my class because the IPad’s can be used to access the internet as well. Some applications on the IPad’s that I would love to have for the students’ use would be Educreations, GarageBand, and IMovie. I have used these apps in both primary and junior classrooms and they offer many different tools for students to be creative in their work. These apps allow students to take pictures, create videos, and produce music, which are all great tools to help enhance student learning.
I would also love to have an overhead projector that projects onto a whiteboard. This method was shown to me within my first placement classroom and I really enjoyed the way it worked within the classroom. The teacher is able to put a template onto the overhead projector, and then fill in the template along with the students help on the whiteboard. This also allows for an interactive lesson by having the students not only state what they think should go in the template, but also having the students come up to the whiteboard and write their answers, while filling in the template.
I currently do not have much experience with SMART Board technology, and therefore am unsure as to whether I would need this type of technology. I would like to have a SMART Board in my classroom so that I am able to tinker and investigate what the SMART Board’s capabilities are and understand how to use it as well. However, since I have not had much experience with this technology I do not know if I would find it helpful within my classroom or whether it would just take up more space.
Overall, I would ideally love to have access to the most variety of technology in my classroom. Students who are living in the 21st century need to know how to appropriately use and access technology and the benefits that technology offers them. By giving students a variety of technology resources, they are better able to decide what technology can further their learning and learn how to appropriately use technology.
